Tie a Pratt Knot

How to tie a Pratt Knot

You already know how to tie a Four in Hand and you also mastered the popular double Windsor knot. So why would you need to know a third way to tie a necktie? Well, the tie knot you choose needs to match the tie design, the shirt collar, and needs to take you necksize and height into consideration. If you are looking for a triangular, symmetrical, medium-sized tie knot that does not take up much of the tie’s length, then the Pratt knot will be perfect for you. In addition, the Pratt knot is one of the easiest knots to tie with a stylish dimple. Below are our instructions on how to tie a Pratt knot.

  1. Lay the necktie around your neck so that the wide end hangs 2/3 lower. The seam on the tie should be visible at the front.
  2. Wrap the wide end through the part that loops around your neck and pull tight slightly.
  3. Pull the wide end of the tie towards the center to ensure that no gap is showing.
  4. Now loop the wide end of the tie over the narrow end. For the first time the front of the tie is showing. This will create the knot.
  5. Do not pull the knot too tight but create a loop at the front of the knot. Pull the wide end through this loop.
  6. Finally, tighten it. If you like the dimpled look then pinch before.
